Every day, millions of people around the world face hunger and starvation. Children go to bed hungry, and, in places like South Sudan, many wonder when their next meal will come—if at all. Tragically, thousands of men, women, and children die of starvation every single day.
The need is great and overwhelming. But you can make a difference. With just one bucket, you can provide a family of six with one month’s worth of highly nutritious meals.
It begins with one meal.
International Meals
Our international food packet recipe was designed by a team of food scientist to identity the 21 most lacking vitamins and nutrients around the world, especially among children. This recipe consists of long-grain rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and the specially formulated vitamin blend that helps strengthen the recipients’ immune systems. Each packet contains six generous servings.
Domestic Meals
Our domestic hunger relief efforts consist of two recipes—apple cinnamon oatmeal and tomato basil pasta. These meals are both delicious and, just as our international recipe, fortified with a vitamin blend to provide extra nutrition for those who receive these meals. Both packets also contain six generous portions each.
From your hands…
Several times a year, HSM partners with churches and communities around the US to host mass packaging events. These often multi-day events offer people a chance to come together in fun and fellowship to assemble thousands of international meals. We have hosted groups in West Virginia, Ohio, Kansas, Texas, North Carolina, and South Carolina—and during some events, have packaged more than 200,000 meals in one weekend.
Hunger Challenge Events
While Hunger Challenges are large, annual events per community, small group packagings allow families, friends, church groups, and club or business groups to pack domestic and international meals year-round. These events are invaluable to our hunger relief efforts, helping us supply more food to those in need in between hunger challenge events. Whether it’s a one time packaging or a monthly partnership, these events make a huge impact.
Small Group Events

In the past twenty-five years, HSM has sent food to numerous countries, including Ghana, the Philippines, Haiti, Burkina Faso, North Korea, Ukraine, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. And while we look for every opportunity to send food to those in need, the Lord has made a way for us to especially pour into South Sudan, where food insecurity is especially intense. Thanks to providential partners in South Sudan and with the help of donors and volunteers, we have been able to provide continued support, hope, and best of all, the Gospel to the South Sudanese people.
International Distribution
Our domestic food is predominantly distributed in one of two ways. The majority of these meals reach those in need through partnership with food banks across the state. But we also share our domestic meals in our disaster relief buckets, which we distribute through partnerships with churches and ministries in affected communities. Between these two means, we have been able to provide over 250,000 meals since 2020 not only in WV, but throughout the southeastern States.
